Living with roommates involves splitting bills for essentials like electricity, heating and internet. While some stick to the agreement and share the costs fairly, there are always those who don’t pay their dues, leaving others to unfairly foot the bill.

Frustrated by a freeloading roommate refusing to cough up their share for the Wi-Fi, one person got creative to cut the moocher off.

They got rid of the home internet and turned to their phone hotspots. Posting on Reddit, he said: “It’s slow compared to home internet, but at least I’m not paying for someone else’s entertainment.”

Despite enduring the snail-paced connection, they’re pretty smug about their savvy solution. Fellow Reddit users dived into debate, tossing around different tactics that couldve been tried instead.

Tips flew in about cheaper alternatives and nifty tricks. One user said: “Why didn’t you just change the WiFi password or block his devices on the router?”

Another chimed in with some friendly advice about getting discounts on new service plans, saying: “You usually get a discount for the first year of service – if you ever get sick of the slowness look into a new plan and just don’t share the password.”

Echoing an earlier suggestion, another individual commented: “You could have just changed the passwords. Then you could have used an access point that has a pay for use Hotspot. So he needs to pay daily by cc before he uses it. Like hotels do. These are not expensive to set up. It just goes to a splash screen with a paywall.”
